How Beamline compares

People choosing a React kit for an app their coding agent builds usually weigh Beamline against shadcn/ui, Untitled UI React and MUI. Here is how they differ, from each kit's own pages as they read on 8 October 2026. Prices and plans change, so follow the sources at the end before you decide.

The short answer

  • Choose Beamline when an agent builds your app and you want finished, designed parts for the hard screens (trading, AI agents, voice, dashboards, settings) in one design language, installed and checked by the agent, for one payment that covers your whole team.
  • Choose shadcn/ui when you want free, open code to build and own your own component library, and you will do the design and the specialised parts yourself.
  • Choose Untitled UI React when you need marketing sites and app pages at volume, thousands of sections, with a matching Figma kit.
  • Choose MUI when you want Material Design, or enterprise data features such as MUI X's advanced data grid, scheduler and charts, licensed per developer.
  • Tailwind Plus closed to new customers on 9 September 2026, when Tailwind Labs joined Shopify; existing customers keep access.

Beamline and shadcn/ui

shadcn/ui says of itself that it "is not a component library": it is how you build your own. You get open code to change line by line, a registry system, and an MCP server that installs from registries. Beamline is the opposite bet: a finished library where every part follows one API and one design, with the specialised parts already built (an order book with keyboard price picking, a reasoning trace, an approval card, a voice agent screen), so your agent assembles instead of designing. If you want everything free and open, or you want to own the design system yourself, shadcn/ui is the better fit.

Beamline and Untitled UI React

Untitled UI React is the largest collection of the four, built on React Aria and Tailwind, with a free MIT base and PRO plans priced by team size. It covers base, application and marketing components with 250+ page examples, and Untitled UI also sells a matching Figma kit. Beamline is smaller and deeper in product UI that changes several times a second or talks to an agent: live market data, streamed answers, tool calls, plans that wait for approval. Beamline's one licence covers a whole team at one price; Untitled UI's PRO plans are priced by the number of users.

Beamline and MUI

Material UI is free and MIT; the advanced parts of MUI X (Pro and Premium data grid features, scheduler and more) are licensed per developer per year. Its MCP server answers from MUI's documentation and code references; it does not install parts into your app. Choose MUI for Material Design or for MUI X's enterprise data features. Beamline is dark first, not Material, and its agent workflow installs and audits the parts rather than only describing them.

What Beamline does not do

  • It is React only (React 19). There is no Vue, Svelte or plain HTML version.
  • It is not open source. Every version you received stays yours, but the code cannot be republished as a kit.
  • It is designed dark first, at desktop width first. Light and phone widths are checked for every part, but dark at desktop width is the primary target.
  • It is exercised in Chromium; Firefox and Safari are not verified yet.
  • Its parts never fetch data or perform actions themselves: your app supplies data and handlers, so you write those.

The full list is in Known limitations, and every part is live in the component library to try before you decide.
